Regional Pain: Back and Neck Q & A

Bextra

Is bextra a good drug for cervical herniatetd disc pain? I was wondering if I could take more that 1 10mg tablet a day. 1 tablet is not giving me much relief.

Rheumatoid Arthritis

I have RA and I have been on methotrexate for a month with prednisone and NSAID. I have been feeling great for the first week. I went back to my daily 30 minute walks, that I couldn’t do for over a year. I have RA in my hips. But now I have a differnt kind of pain in my hip that goes down the outter side of my leg to my knee. I get the most pain when I bent forward like picking something off the floor. I was wondering If this could be an inflamed tendon or bursitis. I get inflamed tendons all the time in my other jionts. I think I might have sarted walking to long to soon.

Managing Musculoskeletal Arthritis

I have been told by my doctor, that I have musculoskeletal arthritis in my lower back. Do you have any suggestions for managing this at my age 75. Also the doctor perscribed a medication called “mobic” at 10mg daily. I am a heart patient and I am not sure if this is safe for me to take along with my other medications.

Pain in my Back Rheumatoid Arthritis?

I have RA in all my joints except my back and neck. Lately I have been getting pain in the back of my thigh and numbness from my knee down. Does this sound like pinched sciatic nerve? What can cause it if I never had any back problems but I do have RA in my hips?

RA- Lyrica

My father was diagnosed with RA many years ago and is now having terrible lower back pain. His pain has reduced him to using a cane when walking, however he remains active by using a four wheeler. His physician just prescribed Lyrica for his pain and told him to stay off the four wheeler. My father was diagnosed with high blood sugar 2yrs ago and does take a pill for it. I can not find any information with treating RA patients with Lyrica. Do you know of any benefits?

Herniated Disc and Rheumatoid Arthritis

I was told I had a positive for rheumatoid arthritis (though a low positive) an a high inflammation level then sent to the rheumatologist by my personal doctor. The rheumatologist has now decided I have a herniated disc in my back that is causing these issues because the pain that is keeping me from being able to walk is in one leg and he says has taken away my reflexs in that leg. When I got the records from his office to take with me to the neurosurgical consultation and for the MRI an I found that his interprution of my explation of pain did not line up with the points I was trying to make about my ankle and hip pain in BOTH sides though my leg/ knee pain is only to my right and I have muscle pain on that side also that feels like a hot knife. He quotes me in ways I don’t recognize and seemed frustrated that the first doctor sent me to him. I don’t understand does that mean he thinks I only have a herniated disc or do I go back and re-examine the rheumatiod issue after the disc is dealt with/ He didn’t seem to have time to discuse this with me and I waited and hour and a half once I was in the room to be examine and for consultation. I don’t think communication went well though I think he may be right about the herniated disc it still does not explain to me the issues with my hands, elbows and feet.
