Fibromyalgia Q & A

Fibromyalgia and ‘knots’

Hello, I was wondering if Fibromyalgia affected only women. I am a man, for the last few years i’ve noticed small knots around my body….thighs, behind knee, arms, some on back near spine. Last year on the back of my legs got bad, really bad, left leg behind knee along tendon knots, lots of them could hardly walk, went to doctor, sent me for blood, x-rays and blood flow tests, all came back good, by the time I had went through all that and with some heavy hitting pain meds, the knots subsided and reduced in swelling, I wanted an MRI, my doctor didn’t, said it had gotten better and we’ll keep an eye on it. The knots are still there and it does restict movement at times with pain, but now i’m getting lots of knots on my right forearm with pain. Is this a form of Fibromyalgia or not enough water. My doctor had prescibed to me at first to bike ride, swim and stretch as much as possible, 2 days later I almost passed out from the pain and obviously he said to then relax the leg.

Fibromyalgia, myasthenia gravis and ankylosing spondylitis – any relationship?

my father has had myasthenia gravis for app. 50 yrs., my older brother was diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis app. 10 yrs. ago, and i was diagnosed with fibromyalgia 2 yrs. ago–is there a correlation of these diseases? also, is fibromyalgia considered an autoimmune disease? Lastly, i saw a show about an experimental stem cell surgery for back pain–is there currently any experimental (or otherwise) surgery for AS?

cymbalta and fibromyalgia

After years of suffering from depression, anxiety, IBS,lower back pain, neck/shoulder pain- dx with osteoarthritis~ a pain management doctor started me on Cymbalta. Although I have chronic pain in nearly all 18 “tenderpoints”- when pressure is applied- I DON’T HAVE ANY ADDITIONAL DISCOMFORT. I honestly believe you could hit me with a sledge hammer and I wouldn’t feel it. My doctor has dx me with fibromyalgia- could this be possible?

Colon Cleansing for Fibromyalgia?

I was told about a Dr. from Johns Hopkins who did a radio talk show about a 90 day colon cleanse that helps people with fibromyalgia, among some other problems. How can I get this information?

Doctors treating Fibromyalgia in Central Maryland?

Is there a doctor in the Baltimore, Westminster, or Frederick area of Maryland that is dedicated to Fibromyalgia?

Testing for Fibromyalgia in children?

My step-son has been reluctantly diagnosed by a physician with fibromyalgia. He’s 15 years old, obese, flat-footed and we believe he’s exaggerating. Is there a definitive test to rule out fibromyalgia in a child. He’s been reading about it extensively online and believes everything sounds like his “symptoms”. We don’t want to ignore actual pain but we also don’t want to proceed with a misdiagnosis. We are in the DC Metro area.
