Osteoarthritis Q & A

Combining Celebrex and Warfarin Tabs Prescriptions

My husband has been on celebrex and warfarin for at least three years, recently his Dr that prescribes the celebrex called and requested that he stop taking celebrex imediately- because they have been informed by AMA that it was detrimental to his health. He is on warfarin because of atrium fibulation of the heart and celebrex because of artritis. Any suggestions? He has previously tried several times to withdraw from celebrex – after several days or a week, he can’t stand the pain.

pain during synvisc injection

I recently started Synvisc injections on my knee. The pain during the injection was excrutiating – so much so that the doctor did not finish the last injection. Is this common? Could the doctor have been doing it wrong or is there something else happening?

What is Viscosupplementation?

What is the substance injected with viscosupplementation?

Viscosupplementation for severe OA?

At 54, I would like to delay a TKR as long as I reasonably can, or at least until small incision surgery is the norm. The OA in my one knee is, however, moderate/severe. One physician dismissed my question about viscosupplementation by saying my knee was “too far gone”. I would like to try viscosupplementation anyway. I’m not looking for a miracle: increased comfort and a good night’s sleep would do just fine. Is there a medical downside to trying the viscosupplement, besides the normal risks of injection and the the cost?

Partial Knee Replacement

I would like to know about a partial knee replacement.

Osteoarthritis and Cycling

My mum meenu, who is 54 has osteoarthritis in both her knees. She weights around 70 kilos and is 5ft 2 inches. Her mother, as well as her four aunts and all her cousins have osteoarthritis. She has recently joained a gym, and for a cardio activity cycles for aroung 10-15 mins. She says that after a week, the cycling has worsened the pain in her kneees, and is afraid that cycling will further damage her cartilage. What effect does cycling have on the knees, and if it is infact detremental to her well being, can she engage in any other cardio activity?
