Gout & Pseudogout Q & A

Febuxostat

What is the status of “febuxostat”? It has been over a year since the NDA has been made.

Febuxostat on the Market Yet?

When is the new drug, febuxostat going to be available in the market and is it effective and safe? Any side effects?

gout

My husband is 42 years old our primary physician says hes the worst gout patient he has ever seen. He has chronic gout and my question is i heard there is a new drug called febuxostat that may help gout patients more so than allpurinol. Can you tell me when will this drug be on the market?

severe gout-tophi

My 94 year old mother has had severe gout for about 15 years. The terminal phalanges of her hands are eroded, she has little movement in her fingers, she is riddled with tophi and has wounds on two fingers that will not heal, in spite of being on antibiotics for the last 12 months. She has very limited use of her hands. She had an allergy to allopurinol (skin rash) about 10-12 years ago so treatment has been limited to 6omg /day of colchicine The solution that is proposed is amputation above the knuckles. My question is this, is there anything less dramatic that can be done. Are there new drugs/treatments available. Or is this all hopeless?

preventing gout attacks

Does taking Glucosamine chondroitin, calcium and omega fish oil have any bearing on my gout attacks?  So many foods are listed as possible causes of gout, can you suggest a diet that one can live with?

allopurinol

Does allopurinol have any narcotics in it?
