Methotrexate (MTX) does not have to be stopped prior to surgery. There is very little risk of infection post-surgery with this medication. We rheumatologists use very small doses of MTX to treat RA. The oncologists use much larger doses to treat cancer and there is more of an infectious risk in that situation.

I am having an upper eyelid blepharoplasty and wonder what your recommendations are for how long I should stay off methotrexate before and after the surgery? I take .6 ml of mtx weekly.
