Question about Enbrel treatment

Question

I’ve been diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis, and a doctor I consulted told me that my arthritis is already advanced, specially in my hands. He told me my only solution was to start a treatment with Enbrel, but I’ve read of many side effects and for that I’m skeptical about taking it. Is this the only “solution” to arthritis, or are there any other or new medications or treatments for this disease?

Answer

The following medications are approved by the FDA in the US for the treatment of psoriatic arthritis: anti-TNF inhibitors, ustekinumab and apremilast. Of these, the latter is an oral medication. Your doctor may indicate other treatment options depending on the specifics of your own diagnosis.
